My fellow folks — it’s John K with an annual report of sorts on my poetically heroic and comically apocalyptic episodic ebook/audio epic, Lore of the Underlings…
I’m happy to report that the state of the Lore is strong!
On the ebook front, the first 5 published episodes have totaled about 3,000 downloads to date, which far exceeds my wildest dreams for these yet-to-be-publicized, lyrical tales.
The podcasts, which I started recording a few months ago at the urging of some friends, have also been well received. As of now I’ve produced over three hours of tale telling, using more than 40 different voices and several pieces of original music to dramatize the first few episodes of Lore. If you haven’t listened yet, I think you’ll find these a fun introduction.
Turning to the year ahead, 2014 will be a year of writing, writing, and more writing. Over the past few weeks, I’ve plotted out the next 4 Lore episodes, probably amounting to a couple hundred pages of new material. Those episodes are especially significant because they’ll take the story and its assembled characters to the midpoint of Volume One and the launch of a great quest — the perilous journey through which the remaining two and a half volumes will unfold.
The plot is due to thicken and quicken with plenty of twists and new characters too, enough to shake a pike at. I’m very excited to write it!
And, just for fun, I’m going to expose my writing process on this blog by posting fairly regular journal entries full of farm-fresh words from the fields of Lore — with some suitable photos or artwork of course.
My only wish is that I had more time for all of this… but I’m yet just a spare-time writer.
Anyway, in conclusion friends, ask not what the Lore can do for you… well, on second thought, do ask that, for Lore of the Underlings will still be free for the year to come, I guarantee.
So the very best to you and yours. And may the Lore be with you!
